National Painting Contractors Wins First Federal Contract Award (In Under Three Months!)

When James McClusky registered National Painting Contractors as a business on May 27, 2021, he had considered the possibility of government contracting as a source of revenue. What he didn’t anticipate was how quickly that opportunity would arise!

On August 4, 2021, National Painting Contractors was awarded a $12,000 contract with the National Parks Service (Department of Interior) for the repainting of an equipment storage building that’s listed on the National Registry of Historic Buildings at the Chalmette National Cemetery in Chalmette, Louisiana.

James, a proud member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians, worked closely with PEDCO PTAC to position National Painting Contractors to apply for Federal Government contracts.

“I didn’t waste any time contacting PEDCO PTAC,” said James, who became aware of PEDCO PTAC’s government contract counseling services through Sault Tribe Thrive, a business development program offered to members of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. “I wasn’t entirely sure where to start, but PEDCO PTAC led the way. We registered my business with the System for Award Management (SAM) so that National Painting Contractors would be eligible to bid for Federal contracts. We then set up a bid notification process that was designed to alert me by email to any bid opportunities that matched my area of expertise. When the National Park Service opportunity came along, I was ready to submit a bid.”

James is currently developing a strategy with PEDCO PTAC to expand National Painting Contractors’ government business opportunities, including certification in the Small Business Administration’s HUBZone Program, and the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program.

“This (National Park Service) contract is just the beginning,” James explains. “With PEDCO PTAC’s support and guidance, I’m excited about the possibilities to develop my business in the government marketplace!”.
