Module 1 BUSINESS STARTUP of PEDCO’s business development courses provides in-depth information about the initial steps to be taken to start a new business. Module 1 includes two courses: Course 1: Steps for Starting a Business and Course 2: Business Plan/Planning.

Course 2 Business Plan/Planning description:

Course 2 provides in-depth information about how to prepare a business plan that outlines ideas and goals and supplies insight on how the business will go about achieving those goals. Course 2 includes four units: Unit 1: Market Analysis Introduction, Unit 2: Sales and Marketing, Unit 3: Funding, and Unit 4: Financial Documents.

After completing all four units of Course 2: Business Plan/Planning, you should be able to:

*Identify all components of starting your business to prepare a business plan

* Prepare the financial documents needed for your business plan and to start up your business

Course 2 Unit 1 Market Analysis Introduction description: Develop an understanding of the consumer base for your product and your place within the market.

After completing this unit, you will be able to:

*Describe best practices for market analysis including: Finding customers, Reading demographic data, Reading market data, How to conduct research

*Describe how to gain a market advantage using: Porter’s Five Forces, SWOT

*Describe best practices for marketing a new business including how to attract and retain loyal customers

Course 2 Unit 4 Financial Documents description: For the final step of your Business Plan, you will complete financial documents for your business including a Cash Flow Statement, an Income Statement, and a Balance Sheet. These documents allow the owners of the business or the readers of the documents to determine the movement of money within the business, its profitability, and the value of the company’s equity.

After completing this unit, you will be able to:

*Explain how a Cash Flow Statement shows the movement of cash within the business.

*Describe how an Income Statement creates a comparative record of every source of income and expense for a business over time.

*Explain how a Balance Sheet creates a financial snapshot of a business at a particular moment.

*Detail how these three financial documents work together to provide a snapshot of a business.
